18th Century Floral Block Print
Product Description
This reconstructed floral design works well across a broad range of 18th-century dressmaking projects. The open repeat supports both larger garments and smaller fitted pieces, allowing flexible cutting while maintaining visual continuity and a strong decorative presence suitable for historical wardrobes.
The design features a scattered floral composition with clear spacing and balanced movement. Larger blossoms are combined with smaller elements and flowing stems, creating a rhythm that supports both structured garments and softer silhouettes without disrupting the overall visual flow.
Well suited for
Robe Battante, Mantua, Jackets, Banyan, and Aprons. The design also adapts well to petticoats and informal garments, where a light but structured repeat allows practical fabric placement while maintaining a historically accurate and visually engaging appearance.
Design & Historical Context
This design is inspired by an 18th-century textile sample collection owned by Anders Berch (1711–1774), professor of economics in Uppsala. Such collections were used to study trade and production and now serve as valuable references for reconstructing historical printed textiles.
