1750 English Floral Cotton Print
Product Description
This design is inspired by mid-18th-century English textile prints, based on documented fabric design drawings from the 1750s. Adapted for cotton, it reflects the light and decorative character of block-printed textiles used for garments and interiors.
The composition features elegant trailing flowers and foliage arranged in a balanced, flowing repeat. The scale allows both detailed appreciation and practical use in garment construction, making it especially suitable for larger pieces.
Well suited for
Robe Battante, Mantua, Jackets, Banyan, Aprons
Design & Historical Context
The original source is a mid-18th-century English textile design print, produced using woodblock printing with additional colour applied by hand. Such designs were widely used across Europe and represent a transition toward lighter, more naturalistic floral compositions in cotton fabrics.
Catharine Macaulay (1731–1791) was the first Englishwoman to become a professional historian. Her multi-volume work on English history made her one of the most recognised intellectual figures of her time.
Her life reflects the intellectual and cultural climate of the 18th century, a period in which printed textiles like these formed part of everyday dress and domestic life.
