1730s Robe à la Française Fabric Recreation
Custom historical fabric recreation based on documented 18th-century sources, developed for academic and costume research purposes.
This textile was recreated at the request of Anni Shepherd PhD, based on an original design dated to the 1730s. The work focused on preserving the character, scale, and visual rhythm of the historical source.

Historical Source
The original design is documented in the book Säätyläisnaisten pukeutuminen Suomessa 1700-luvulla by Riitta Pylkkänen.
The textile relates to a robe à la française dated approximately 1730–1740, a period defined by early Rococo influence and structured yet expressive textile design.
Custom Historical Fabric Development
The recreation process focused on translating a documented historical textile into a usable fabric for garment construction, maintaining both visual authenticity and practical function.
Projects such as this demonstrate how historical textile sources can be reinterpreted for research, reconstruction, and historically informed dressmaking.
Further details regarding the final use of this textile will be added as the project develops.
