Late 18th-Century Military Tent Fabric
This textile project is based on a heavily worn original fabric that has been exposed to extensive use over time, resulting in natural colour variation and irregularity.
The main challenge has not been the complexity of the design itself, but how to interpret and translate its character into a functional textile. The original material contains subtle shifts in colour and form that are difficult to simplify without losing its visual depth.
Working too closely on very small details — such as individual dots and minor variations — can lead to a process where effort increases without significantly improving the overall result. In historical textiles, these variations are part of what gives the material its life and authenticity.
The project is currently at sample stage, and highlights the importance of balancing precision with practical progress — allowing the textile to retain its character while moving the work forward.
