This textile fragment originates from Egypt and is dated between the late 10th and the 15th century AD. Woven in cotton, it features birds and tendrils as part of its decorative design. The piece was created using refined techniques: block-printing with mordant, dyeing in red, and resist-dyeing in a light blue shade. The fabric itself is plain woven, with details enhanced by relief print and mordant dye.

This Design is dedicated for Anne Neville

Anne Neville (1456–1485) was an English noblewoman and queen consort of England. She was the daughter of Richard Neville, the “Kingmaker” Earl of Warwick, and became the wife of Richard III.

Her life was shaped by the Wars of the Roses: first married to Edward of Westminster, son of Henry VI, and after his death, to Richard, Duke of Gloucester (later Richard III). As queen, she held the crown only briefly (1483–1485) and died young at about 28 or 29 years old, likely of illness.
