18th-Century French Block-Printed Cotton – Chef de Pièce, c. 1777–1790
Product Description
This bold 18th-century French block-printed cotton is based on a historic chef de pièce produced by Le Lievre Heutte Vimeux & Comp. in Rouen around 1777–1790. Printed on plain weave with a linen warp and cotton weft, the design reflects the advanced printing techniques and strong visual rhythm characteristic of late 18th-century French cottons.
The generous pattern scale and pronounced floral motifs make this design particularly well suited for projects where the full repeat can be appreciated. Due to the width and size of the motifs, it is less suitable for small-scale garments, as the design is intentionally bold and expansive.
Ideal for:
- Aprons and workwear with historic character
- Curtains, canopy hangings, and bed draperies
- Wall hangings and decorative textiles
- Interior projects inspired by 18th-century French design
Mercy Otis Warren was a published poet, political playwright, and satirist during the age of the American Revolution—a time when women were expected to remain silent on political matters. Warren not only engaged with leading figures such as John, Abigail, and Samuel Adams, but also became an outspoken political commentator and historian, emerging as the leading female intellectual of the Revolutionary era and early American republic.
