The original design appears on a bed cover from the early 1600s, embroidered in monochrome wool in a pinkish-red hue.
The main pattern, spread across the curtain’s entire surface, features a continuous scrolling design inspired by Elizabethan motifs. Each scroll gracefully culminates in a pair of flowers, reflecting the characteristic ornamental style of the era.
In my recreation, I have reimagined the design in blue. The scrolls measure approximately 12-15 centimeters, preserving the proportions and visual rhythm of the original piece.
This Design is dedicated for Marie de Rohan.
Marie de Rohan, Duchess of Chevreuse, was a French courtier and political intriguer born in December 1600. She was deeply involved in the power struggles of Louis XIII’s reign, often opposing Cardinal Richelieu and later Cardinal Mazarin. Known for her intelligence, charm, and rebellious spirit, she played a key role in various conspiracies and was exiled multiple times due to her political activities.
