Product Description
This historical cotton fabric design is inspired by an original French block-printed textile fragment from the early 19th century. The pattern features stylised floral motifs and decorative botanical leaves arranged across a rich plum-purple ground, creating a bold yet elegant Regency-era textile appearance.
The original textile was produced using block printing on cotton plain weave, a decorative technique widely used in fashionable European printed cottons during the late Georgian and Regency period. The large-scale motif layout makes this design especially versatile and suitable for garments ranging from elegant waistcoats and banyans to Regency gowns, jackets, and decorative interiors.
This reconstructed design works beautifully for historical waistcoats, banyans, dressing gowns, Regency jackets, pelisses, theatre costumes, reenactment clothing, doll clothes, and museum-inspired sewing projects. Because the pattern scale can be adjusted easily, the textile adapts well to both large garments and smaller detailed tailoring projects.

Design & Historical Context
The original textile fragment originates from France and dates to the early 19th century. Printed cotton fabrics with bold stylised floral motifs became fashionable throughout Europe during the Regency and Napoleonic era, combining decorative richness with practical wearability.
The large repeating motifs create a visually striking textile surface particularly suitable for garments where the fabric can be appreciated across wider areas, such as banyans, waistcoats, wrappers, jackets, and decorative interiors. The plum-purple background together with red, blue, black, and white details creates a dramatic but refined historical colour palette.

Reference Person: Marie-Victoire Lemoine (1754–1820) was a French classicist painter known for her refined portraits and genre scenes. She was one of the few women in France during her time able to support herself professionally through painting. Her artistic world reflects the same elegant Regency-era culture associated with decorative printed cotton textiles such as this design.
