1782 Geneviève d'Ossun - Raspberry Cream

Even this one I have found from “Gazette des atours de la Reine Marie-Antoinette pour l'année 1782”, which can be translated; “An official journal of the attire of Queen Marie-Antoinette for the year 1782”.

Geneviève d’Ossun, born Geneviève de Gramont in Paris in 1751, was a prominent French courtier known for her service to Queen Marie Antoinette.  In 1766, she married Marquis Charles d’Ossun, which facilitated her introduction into the royal court.

D’Ossun’s significant role began on May 26, 1781, when she was appointed dame d’atour (lady of the bedchamber) to Queen Marie Antoinette. In this capacity, she was responsible for overseeing the queen’s wardrobe and dressing ceremonies. Her tenure as dame d’atour lasted until 1791, during which she attempted to manage the extravagant costs associated with the queen’s wardrobe by negotiating with merchants and advising Marie Antoinette on reducing expenses. Although initially met with resistance from the queen due to her lack of charm compared to other courtiers like Yolande de Polastron, duchesse de Polignac, she eventually gained Marie Antoinette’s trust.
