Inspiration to this historical fabric design I have found from a Block printed Textile Fragment located in Art Institvte Chicago. It is dated between 1730 and 1750 and it is an Indian hand-dyed fabric made for the European market.

My fabric choice is Cotton cretonne. The design is printed lengthwise why three meters is needed. The rest of the fabric can be used for the hem for the underskirt

The design is made to look "not 100 % perfect" and the colours will differ a bit, but I have seen few of these out there already so nice it will be.

I have given name to this fabric after  Emilie Du Châtelet who was a philosopher, physicist, and mathematician, and a key figure in the reception and development of Newtonian mechanics in France and beyond. In 1735, she retired to Cirey, where her family had given shelter to Voltaire (1694-1778). At the Château de Cirey, Du Châtelet established an extensive library and a laboratory with the most up to date scientific instruments. Voltaire acknowledges her significant contributions to his 1738 Éléments de la philosophie de Newton. Shortly thereafter, Du Châtelet published her Lettre sur les Eléments de la Philosophie Newton (1738) and her Dissertation sur la nature et la propagation du feu (1739).

Grandma's Laundry Tricks:
  • Do not Brush, Rub or Scrub the printed fabrics too hard to avoid damage to print quality.
  • Wash with similar colours to avoid staining or tint.
  • Please do not overuse the centrifuge, it only wrinkles the fabric.
  • Please do not overuse the dryer or use extrem heat, this only tears the fibres apart.
  • A dehumidifier is a great invention to dry the fabrics and clothes.
  • Dry the fabrics outdoors, if possible, but not under direct sunlight.
  • Environmentally awareness and the durability of clothing go hand in hand.
  • Do You really need to use the fabric softener or is white vinegar good enough?
