Marguerite Gérard (1761–1837) was a French painter and printmaker known for her detailed genre scenes, portraits, and domestic interiors. She began her career working closely with her brother-in-law, the renowned painter Jean-Honoré Fragonard, and was one of the few successful female artists in 18th-century France. Gérard specialized in intimate, finely detailed depictions of everyday life, often focusing on women and children. Her works were widely admired for their charm, technical skill, and delicate observation. Despite the barriers faced by women in the art world of her time, she exhibited at the Paris Salon and gained considerable recognition.
