The original is an English day dress in roller-printed cotton, dated around 1808. The textile features a white ground decorated with repeating purple thistle motifs, a characteristic early 19th-century design. This dress is referenced in Napoleon & the Empire of Fashion, highlighting its place within the fashionable context of the period.

Lady Caroline Lamb (1785–1828) was a British aristocrat, novelist, and one of the most talked-about figures of the Regency era. Best remembered for her stormy affair with Lord Byron — whom she famously described as “mad, bad, and dangerous to know” — she shocked society with her wit, boldness, and unconventional behavior. Her novel Glenarvon (1816) caused a scandal by portraying Byron and her social circle in barely disguised form. Today, she stands out as both a writer and a symbol of the drama and glamour of Regency high society.
